Webinar Description:
The current series of Church sex scandals (pedophilic and homosexual) provokes the questions of what went wrong and what is the remedy? The definition of the problem always defines the interventions. To define the problem as only a Church hierarchy problem severely limits the interventions and the participants. I propose a wider view. The problem is a crisis of prodigal fathers or fatherlessness. Men have failed by living out the two distortions of masculinity, passivity and/or brutality, creating four groups in the scandals: the victims, the perpetrators, those who actively covered up, and those who knew and did nothing. I will propose spiritual fatherhood, as the summit of being a man lived out in chivalry as priest, prophet, and king, as a solution for all groups involved. I will briefly address how parenting affects the brain, moral development, and virtue (especially valor), and will discuss men’s undervalued contribution.
