Pre-Conference Workshop: Integrating Psychosexual Development in Clergy Applicant Assessments

Workshop Presenters and Small Group Facilitators

Drs. Anthony Isacco, Timothy Lock, Shannon Mullen, Eric Gudan, Mark Glafke, and Christina Lynch

A Note from Workshop Presenters: We are excited to offer this advanced intermediate-level workshop!  The workshop's primary audience is psychologists that conduct psychological evaluations of clergy applicants and clergy in the Catholic Church. Students, clergy, and masters-level mental health professionals are also welcome and would benefit from the workshop. When considering registering, please keep in mind that this workshop will have an interactive, hands-on format to thinking through how to construct effective clinical interviews and reports that pay particular attention to identifying and addressing limitations in psychosexual maturity. In order to foster a rich learning environment, participants should be aware they will be talking in small groups to review assessment data from de-identified cases to practice crafting practical recommendations. On camera participation is strongly encouraged to maximize small group cohesion, processing, and interpersonal comfort. This workshop will be dealing with sensitive information regarding psychosexual material in a clinical context, which may be surprising or triggering for some participants and may require discretion.

The material in this day-long training builds upon the 2018 webinar, Assessing Sexuality and Sexual Behavior in Clergy and Clergy Candidates, by Dr. Shannon Mullen, Ph.D CSAT(https://www.catholicpsychotherapy.org/event-3725210). We recommend participants to view this on-demand workshop before starting this intermediate-level workshop. In addition, participants may also find the introductory-level workshop by this group of presenters to be helpful in their clinical development:  Psychological Evaluations of Seminary Applicants: Moving from Common to Best Practices https://www.catholicpsychotherapy.org/event-4054588
