INTEGRATUS: Special Call for Papers on Trauma
Guest Editor: Gerry Crete, PhD

The editorial team of Integratus, in collaboration with Guest Editor Dr. Gerry Crete, invites submissions for a special issue focused on the topic of trauma, grounded in Catholic anthropology and integrated clinical practice.

This issue is intended to capture and extend the key insights, questions, and approaches arising from the 2025 Catholic Psychotherapy Association Conference, Freedom for Self-Gift: Trauma and Addiction Recovery. While the issue will publish after the conference, it aims to gather contributions from presenters, attendees, and others engaging deeply with the challenges of trauma in Catholic clinical settings.

Dr. Crete brings to this issue his expertise in trauma recovery, EMDR, and Catholic marriage and family therapy, as well as his leadership in Souls and Hearts and the Catholic Psychotherapy Association. His editorial leadership will be complemented by the ongoing involvement of the Integratus editorial team to ensure continuity with the journal’s vision and standards.

We welcome submissions that explore the multifaceted experience of trauma and its treatment through the lens of Catholic thought and therapeutic practice.

Suggested areas of focus include:

  • Integration of trauma theory with Catholic moral and theological anthropology

  • Trauma-informed care in priestly and religious formation

  • Somatic, neurobiological, and affective responses to trauma in light of Catholic doctrine

  • Clinical and pastoral approaches to shame, scrupulosity, and spiritual desolation

  • Trauma and addiction: underlying mechanisms and treatment approaches

  • Sexual abuse, betrayal trauma, and recovery within ecclesial contexts

  • Catholic reflections on healing, agency, and moral responsibility after trauma

  • Practice models and training paradigms for trauma-informed Catholic psychotherapy

  • Case studies that reflect clinical excellence and theological fidelity

We encourage submissions from clinicians, researchers, spiritual directors, educators, and scholars across disciplines. Both theoretical and empirical work is welcome, along with case-based or reflective contributions.
